SysMaster Introduces SS7 Support for its VoIP Gateway

June 01, 2002
Emeryville, CA

SysMaster Corporation, a leading provider of Voice-over-IP solutions for the enterprise, announced today that it has added SS7 support for its VoIP Gateway. The latest upgrade increases the compatibility of SysMaster's VoIP equipment with existing telecommunications infrastructure in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) which makes it particularly appealing to local exchange carriers (LEC).

"SS7 is the standard for the public switched telephone network. By adding SS7 support we make our equipment more attractive to local exchange carriers who consider adopting VoIP technology," said Michael Fahey, SysMaster Director of Sales. "Using our gateway, LECs can leverage the intelligence of SS7 with the flexibility of VoIP to deliver new enhanced services to their customers and to divert voice and data traffic from the PSTN."

SysMaster VoIP Gateway is a carrier-grade, H.323/SIP/SS7/ISDN/PSTN/CAS compliant gateway that supports up to 480 PSTN/SS7 channels through E1/T1/ISDN/PRI lines and up to 1920 VoIP channels. The gateway routes all incoming calls via PSTN or VoIP channels based on custom routes for individual users. It supports G729A/B/AB, G723.1, G726, and GSM codecs capable of operating concurrently, proxy services, and multiple gatekeeper registrations. With an optional add-on module, SysMaster VoIP Gateway can operate as a callback gateway and initiate callback services via any of the following methods - Web, Email, SMS, or ANI.

The Common Channel Signaling System 7 or (SS7) is a global standard for conducting efficient and secure telecommunications in the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the standard defines the procedures and protocol by which network elements in the PSTN exchange information over a digital signaling network. SS7 is used for basic call setup, management and tear down as well as for toll-free (800/888) and toll (900) wireline services. The standard also enables enhanced call features such as call forwarding, calling party name/number display, three-way calling, etc.
