SysMaster to Use New DaVinci Chip in Its Tornado M10 Digital Media Center
Leading-Edge Technology Will Enable Tornado M10 to Support Advanced H.264 Video Compression and High Definition TV
WALNUT CREEK, CA, October 10, 2006 – SysMaster Corporation, the California-based leader in VoIP, IPTV, and wireless products and solutions, announced today that the new SysMaster Tornado M10™ Digital Media Center will incorporate the DaVinci chip from Texas Instruments Corporation—breakthrough technology that optimizes Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) digital signal processing.
SysMaster's Tornado M10 Digital Media Center is a popular customer premises equipment (CPE) device for delivering streaming audio, video, and data directly to consumers’ TV sets and/or Home Entertainment systems. Now, the DaVinci TMS320DM644x chip will give the new Tornado M10—scheduled for release in Q1 2007—the ability to support H.264 video compression and High Definition Television (HDTV) for exceptional quality picture. Also known as Advanced Video Coding (AVC), H.264 video compression allows delivery of high-quality video at bit rates substantially lower relative to previous MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) standards, such as MPEG2 and MPEG4.
"SysMaster is extremely pleased with our ability to offer this richer viewing experience," said Martin Yosifov, SysMaster Director of Marketing. "The Tornado M10 will make accessible to service providers and their customers the benefits of Texas Instruments sophisticated research and development. The DaVinci chip offers robust video processing, including H.264 compression, for demanding video applications at the lowest possible cost."
Currently, Tornado M10 supports MPEG4 video compression algorithm, soon to reflect the advances of the DaVinci chip. Distinguished by its ability to deliver high quality video streams over networks with limited bandwidth, the Tornado M10 also offers the benefits of Voice-over-IP technology for inexpensive phone calls via the Internet.
Recently, SysMaster announced support for the H.264 standard in other products from its IPTV portfolio. Release of the new DaVinci-enabled Tornado M10 will make SysMaster the first vendor to offer end-to-end IPTV solutions utilizing H.264 video compression.
