SysMaster’s CellNode M100 Now Offers Multicast-to-Unicast Conversion That Lightens Load on Network Backbone and Lowers Costs Dramatically
New feature eliminates redundant data streams that flood the backbone—reducing the network load and improving its capacity
WALNUT CREEK, CA, April 23, 2007 – SysMaster Corporation, a leading provider of VoIP, IPTV and Wireless solutions for telecoms and service providers, announces the release of an enhanced new version of its CellNode M100 WiFi access node, enabling Multicast-to-Unicast stream conversion. This feature lets providers transport one data stream, such as an IPTV channel, across the network backbone and make it serve multiple users at the last mile, relieving the volume of traffic on the network, increasing efficiency and controlling costs. The new CellNode version also features a superior antenna that extends wireless connectivity range substantially.
Unicast is utilized in point-to-point communications, while multicast is used in point-to-multipoint environment. In the past, a provider wishing to support multiple IPTV users, for example, would have to stream simultaneous, redundant IPTV channels across the network backbone—even if all users were watching the same channel—thus overloading the backbone with unnecessary traffic. However, with the new multicast-to-unicast feature, only one data stream need travel over the backbone, because it can be replicated and multiplied before entering the last mile by the CellNode device.
“We believe that this enhanced CellNode version will be a valuable resource for providers who are working to optimize their networks and provide more services without having to make additional equipment investment,” said Martin Yosifov, SysMaster Director of Marketing. “Not only can we offer a more cost-efficient way to utilize the network, but the CellNode M100 can help providers build wireless networks with fewer nodes and thus limit their capital expenditures.”
The new CellNode M100 version also expands the range of wireless networks by supporting a more powerful, dish type of antenna with 32 dB gain. Now, two CellNodes can communicate at a distance of up to 25 miles—versus a distance of up to 15 miles in older product versions. Reduction in the nodes needed for traffic backhaul further reduces infrastructure costs, making the new CellNode version an even smarter investment for cost-conscious services providers.
